Discover New Ideas in Newport News
Mark your calendar for the 2012 Maryland & Virginia Young Cooperator Conference, to be held February 28 – March 1 in Newport News, Va. Hear key speakers on topics like milk quality and preventing drug residues. Think you know your personality type? Learn more about yourself and those you work with through an interactive session with Dr. Alex White of Virginia Tech on personality profiling.
Have you ever thought of starting a separate business aside from the dairy? You’ll have a chance to listen to three Maryland & Virginia members who have done just that. Fellow YCs Ashley and Wes Winterstein, of Sudlersville, Md., will share how they started a pet party business. Chester Beahm from Remington, Va. will explain how he ventured into the cheese making business and the Lindley family of Lindley Creamery in Snow Camp, N.C. will reveal their secrets to making a great mozzarella cheesecake.
YC participants will also have the opportunity for a town hall session with cooperative management. This is your chance to ask CEO Jay Bryant and others your coop questions. A tour of the Marva Maid plant in Newport News is also planned during the conference- see the plant in action during its processing of milk, yogurt and other dairy products.
The Outstanding YC contest is another feature of the meeting. Contestants will compete for the Outstanding YC where winners will have a chance to participate in Maryland & Virginia Board meetings and NMPF annual meeting held at Disneyworld in Orlando, Fl.
What is the bonus to attending the YC Conference? The cooperative will pay up to $400 in travel expenses and cover hotel and meal expenses.
